Can the width of the side panel be adjusted, and could the close page button be brought back?

The side menu can't be resized at the moment. We're tracking this in our UI Feedback & Fixes section, where we'll post any update: see Side menu can't be resized.
There isn't a close button on each page as there was in the old interface. Instead, each page in Recent Pages has its own close control, and Clear all at the bottom of the list closes them all at once.
