When running the Intercompany Tax Automation, you may find that the resulting manual journal contains duplicate lines for the same account. This causes a transaction imbalance, which prevents the document from being submitted.

Why Duplicate Lines Occur

Duplicate lines appear when the automation is configured to cover multiple VAT periods that have not previously had Intercompany Tax documents generated.

Example

If you run the automation from 01/01/2023, and both the January and April VAT returns have never had Interco tax journals produced, the system will generate two lines for the same account—one for each unreconciled period.

This happens because iplicit snowballs unreconciled values across all VAT periods included in the automation run.

  • If the automation covers three VAT periods → three duplicate lines
  • If it covers two VAT periods → two duplicate lines

Why iplicit Behaves This Way

Intercompany Tax Automation is designed to pick up all outstanding unreconciled balances for the selected period range.
If multiple VAT periods remain unprocessed, the system treats each one as requiring its own adjustment—resulting in repeated lines for the same nominal account.

How to Prevent Duplicate Lines

To avoid duplicates, ensure that each VAT period is processed individually, especially when back‑dating.

Key rule:

✔️ Run the automation for one unreconciled VAT period at a time.

If journals have been produced after every VAT return up to the current period, you will not see duplicate lines.

Example of Correct Usage

If the most recent VAT return on the customer’s system is 01/07/2023, running the automation for that date alone will produce only one journal line, as expected.
