This article covers automatically creating future financial years, using 'Auto populate' within 'Financial year groups'. How many years are created, and which other period-related actions happen alongside it, is controlled by the settings on the 'Setup' tab of the same financial year group.
Auto populating financial years
- Navigate to 'Financial year groups' and open the relevant group – for example, 'Jan-Dec'
- Select 'Auto populate'.

Controlling how many future years are created, on the Setup tab
On the 'Setup' tab of the financial year group, under 'Financial year structure', the 'Create future year(s)' field controls how many years ahead 'Auto populate' creates – for example, a value of 5 creates five years into the future from the current financial year. 'Create past year(s)' works the same way, but for years behind the current one.
Running this automatically with the period end scheduler
'Auto populate' can also run automatically as part of the run period end scheduler. When it runs this way, the scheduler also carries out the other settings configured on the financial year group's 'Setup' tab at the same time – for example, 'Auto roll forward' and 'Auto move to new Financial year' – rather than just creating future years on their own.
