This article covers one specific reason a balance sheet FX revaluation fails to submit: the 'Revaluation: Balance Sheet' document type is locked, and the environment default still points to that locked version. This is different from other balance sheet revaluation issues. If unlocking the document type doesn't resolve your error, see 'Why are the FX revaluations not working for the balance sheet'.
Why the balance sheet FX revaluation won't submit
A 'Revaluation: Balance Sheet' document that won't submit, or throws an error when you try to run it, is commonly caused by the document type being locked. iplicit locks certain system-critical document types, including 'Revaluation: Balance Sheet', to protect the postings they create. If the environment default for this revaluation still points to the locked version, iplicit blocks the submission.
A document type is the setting that controls how a transaction behaves. Environment defaults tell iplicit which document type to use automatically for processes like this one, so both settings need to line up before the revaluation will run.
Unlock the 'Revaluation: Balance Sheet' document type
Do this first:
- Open the document types settings area
- Find the document type named 'Revaluation: Balance Sheet', you may need to expose closed/locked items first
- Select the options menu on that document, then choose 'Unlock'.

Update the environment default for the balance sheet revaluation
Once the document type is unlocked, the environment default needs to be pointed at the unlocked version:
- Open environment defaults
- Find the document types section
- Locate the 'Revaluation: Balance Sheet' setting. A padlock icon or message saying 'Locked record' here means it's still pointing to the locked document
- Select the dropdown and choose 'Revaluation: Balance Sheet' again, now that it's unlocked
- Save your changes.

Confirm the fix
Run the balance sheet FX revaluation again. It should now submit without an error, and the padlock icon/Locked record should no longer appear next to the environment default.
