Why can I not see the current or new financial year?

This article covers why a financial year may not appear correctly, including when financial statements still display last year after a year-end rollover, or when a specific year (such as 2026-2027) is missing from the financial years screen. There are two common causes: the financial year group needs updating, or the year is locked. The fix depends on which applies.

Cause one: the financial year group is set to the wrong year

The financial year group controls which year displays by default in the General Ledger and across financial statements. It can also drive default financial periods. After a year-end rollover, or when moving into a new financial year, the financial year group still points to the previous year until you update it manually.

This is the most common reason financial statements show last year, or a new financial year doesn't appear where you'd expect.

To update the financial year group:

• Navigate to the financial year group page
• Select the group you want to update
• Select 'edit' 
• Change the 'Current financial year' dropdown to the correct year
• Select 'save' and reload the page

Financial statements and General Ledger views now reflect the updated year.

Cause two: the financial year is locked

If the financial year exists but has been locked, it's hidden from the financial years screen by default. Locked years are still in the system, they're just not visible until you expose them.

To unlock a financial year:

• Navigate to the financial years screen
• Select the green dot to expose all locked years
• Locate the year you need
• Unlock the year to make it available

Still can't see the year?

If neither cause resolves the issue, check that your user permissions include access to the relevant legal entity, and that the legal entity has the correct financial year group assigned.
