Why are brought-forward or special periods not showing in the Trial Balance?

This article covers why brought-forward or special periods may not appear in the Trial Balance (TB) report within iplicit. This article covers the iplicit Trial Balance report specifically - not an Excel export. There are two common causes: an incomplete year-end rollover, or the period not being included in the Trial Balance search criteria filters.

Cause one - the year-end rollover has not been completed or posted 

If the year-end rollover journal has not been submitted and posted, brought-forward balances will not appear in the Trial Balance report in iplicit. Before checking your search criteria, confirm the rollover journal has been submitted and posted.

Cause two - the period is excluded from the Trial Balance search criteria 

The Trial Balance report in iplicit filters results based on the search criteria you apply in the report header. If brought-forward or special periods are not selected in the search criteria, they will not appear in the results.

To include brought-forward or special periods in the Trial Balance report:

1. Navigate to the Trial Balance report within iplicit
2. Review the 'Financial year group', 'Financial year' and 'Period' filter fields in the report header
3. Ensure the relevant brought-forward or special period is selected in the 'Period' field
4. Run the report again.

The Trial Balance report displays results based on the filters applied within iplicit. If you are viewing an Excel export of the Trial Balance and periods appear to be missing, return to the iplicit report and rerun the export after updating your search criteria.
