This article covers renaming a Legal Entity in iplicit. A Legal Entity has two separate fields – 'Code' and 'Description' – and only one of them is safe to change.

Changing a Legal Entity's description

You can change a Legal Entity's description at any time without disrupting your system. The description is the name that displays on documents, bank accounts within iplicit – not the banking institution itself – and other associated records, so any change takes effect on these going forward.

Why you shouldn't change a Legal Entity's code

Do not change a Legal Entity's code. The code is what other records use to link back to the Legal Entity, so changing it breaks those existing links and causes errors throughout the system.

What changing a Legal Entity's description doesn't update

Changing the description doesn't update everything in your environment. Some functions in iplicit look at the domain name rather than the description, so these won't change automatically. If you need to update the domain name itself, contact the iplicit support team for assistance.
