This article applies to payments sent through iplicitPay, the open banking payment service inside iplicit. Once an iplicitPay payment has been approved and sent, iplicit cannot reverse it. This article explains why and what to do if you have paid the wrong supplier or the wrong amount.
Can I reverse an iplicitPay payment that has already been sent?
No. Once you approve an iplicitPay payment, the payment is released to your bank and sent to the supplier through open banking. iplicit has no ability to recall, reverse, or undo an iplicitPay payment after it has been approved. This applies whether you have paid the wrong supplier, sent the wrong amount, or simply changed your mind.
Why iplicitPay payments cannot be reversed
iplicitPay uses open banking, which moves money between accounts in near real time. Unlike older payment methods such as cheques or Direct Debits, there is no clearing window during which the payment can be cancelled or pulled back. Once approved, the funds leave your account and arrive with the supplier within minutes.
What to do if you have sent an iplicitPay payment in error
If you have paid the wrong supplier, or sent the wrong amount, you have two options:
- Contact the supplier directly and ask them to return the funds. This is usually the quickest route
- Contact your bank and ask whether they can recover the payment on your behalf. Banks have limited ability to recover sent funds, but it is worth asking, particularly for larger amounts
iplicit support cannot recover funds from a supplier or instruct your bank to pull the payment back.
Can I cancel an iplicitPay payment before it is sent?
If the payment is scheduled for a future date rather than sent immediately, you may be able to cancel it through your online banking. See 'Can I cancel a scheduled iplicitPay payment?' for the steps.
